Prayer Journey ~ Abilene, Gruene, San Antonio, Texas, USA and more...
Texas is a state in the South-Central region of the United States. At 268,596 square miles and with more than 30 million residents in 2020, it is the second largest U.S. State by both area (after Alaska) and population (after California). This is my third prayer journey to Texas, the first in April 2009 to Austin, the State Capitol for the Keys Conference, followed by a prayer journey in October 2022 to Abilene, Texas.

December 7, 2024 ~ Saturday ~ The night skies are clear without snow or freezing fog as the previous week has held. For this I give thanks. After parking the vehicle in long-term parking which is now $24 per day the same as PDX, I trekked to the airport on dry pavements without ice or snow in crisp 22 degrees F. This is a gift. Arriving at RMD at 3:00 AM, a well uniformed individual came through the locked doors to inform me the departure gates would not open until 3:45 AM, which I subsequently informed those arriving early in like manner. Things have changed since my departure from this airport in 2022, now TSA compliant, everyone dressed in clean, pressed, uniforms not the Redneck-wrinkled of previous years. Professional, kind, helpful individuals facilitated the two conveyor belts carrying our luggage and other items through security. Gratefully, there were no handheld scanners of which I was left with bruises more than once, just a large portal to walk through. Life could not be easier or more pleasant. Due to increasing checked-luggage costs, I carried one small carry-on that met the new size regulations, as I had recently read an article that Delta Airlines charged over $27 million for wrong luggage sizing. I did not wish to be a volunteer in funding airlines. Noticing immediately the pain-free right shoulder following a separated-shoulder, ligament tear from 1994 vehicle wrecks which was obviously overlooked and misdiagnosed then successfully repaired in August 2023. Thank you Dr. Katya Urch. A gift. Departure Flight AA 3503 was at 5:20 AM on-time arriving in PHX at 8:57 AM on-time. The person in the seat next to me put on a black satin sleep mask and slept the entire flight. The quiet was peaceful.. Upon arriving in Phoenix and verifying the gate number, walking to the gate and boarding on-time with departure on-time Flight AA 2983 at 9:45 AM to arrive on-time at DFW at 1:15 PM, again with a completely silent person in the adjoining seat. The flight AA 3405 to Abilene departed at 4:45 PM on-time and arrived on-time at 5:41 PM. Three flights with departure and arrival on-time - clearly a miracle.
My incognito attire was effective as Cynthia, who I met in 1999 did not recognize me....smiling am I. Mission Accomplished as I was intentionally wearing a 1970's Harley Davidson jacket, a gift from a friend, and a Harrison Ford style adventure hat. Cynthia easily hoisted the 20-pound hot pink suitcase into the back of her new Bronco and we arrived at her home a few minutes later as Abilene is a small city with a two-gate airport. We shared a comfort meal of lasagna, fresh fruit and sourdough toast which was heavenly since I had not eaten since the day before. Cynthia prepared welcome gifts for H.G.R.M. and personal gifts for me for which I remain grateful. She invited me to watch the news and was a bit taken back when I declined. As I do not have a TV and have never watched a news station. She inquired as to how I know what is going on. Since my introduction to TV as a toddler over 70 years ago, I still find TV boring, inaccurate, and time-consuming. Responding to her as I have to countless others over the last 30 years of ministry, I hear from the Holy Spirit and/or He inspires someone to call. When He speaks to me...in the early years I used a dictionary and Bible dictionary for research, now with the internet it is quite easy to do any subject search, any time, any day. I am an anomaly. As I was a bit sleep deprived, I retired before midnight to prepare for tomorrow's adventure to San Antonio - about a four-hour drive south.
December 8, 2024 ~ Sunday ~ Following a home-cooked breakfast of "Jimmy Dean" Sausage, a well-known Texas home-brand and scrambled eggs, we loaded the Bronco and headed towards San Antonio. The skies overflowed with clouds and a temperate 66 degrees F. Gratefully, we are promised Texas sunshine tomorrow.
I asked Cynthia if we could stop by Abilene Christian University for a photo, as during my trip in 2022, we drove by but I missed the photo opportunity. So she obliged and upon arrival Jacob's Dream was before us. This is genuinely magnificent. I hope you will add it to your list of places to visit. Sacred. Holy. Inspirational. Brilliant. Beautiful. Sculpture Sanctuary. The spiritual atmosphere is similar to Jerusalem, Capernaum, The Sea of Galilee...the holy presence of ABBA ADONAI rests in this place. As I stepped out of the vehicle, a penny lay at my feet. One Sent by the LORD! This is one of the two most memorable gifts of this Prayer Journey. Unexpected. Unprecedented.
As we departed Abilene, we drove by Summer Moon Oak Roasted Coffee the home of “Moon Milk” where we enjoyed a beverage in 2022, yet there was not time today. A few miles before San Antonio, we noticed a Large Cross on a hill outside of Kerrville, Texas with a promise to stop by on our journey home. Cynthia drove to San Antonio, about four hours south, and we checked into the Best Western, our home away from home for two nights. The rooms held four photos depicting time which spoke to me prophetically: 1. Historical Time 2. Present Time 3. Future Time 4. Bridges of Time. YHVH holds all time, is all time, created time for us mere mortals.
Although the location was close to the San Antonio River Walk, it was not within walking distance. San Antonio is a city of 1.5 million, a major city in south-central Texas with a rich colonial heritage. The Alamo, an 18th-century Spanish mission preserved as a museum, marks an infamous 1836 battle for Texan independence from Mexico and the Hemisfair Park’s 750-feet Tower of the Americas overlooks the city.
My singular assignment from the LORD for this Prayer Journey was The Alamo, everything else was a bonus. As always, any assignment of the LORD is at the top of the list. I asked Cynthia if we could go to the Alamo, as I thought once the assignment was completed, things would smooth out. The City of San Antonio has a spiritual atmosphere of being "on-edge" and I was looking forward to a more peaceful journey. The GPS directed us to the Alamo only there was no street parking, no parking lot parking, and more construction than I would have preferred. Cynthia opted to park near the River Walk, a 15-mile parkway, one level down where we shared a very late lunch/early dinner at the Iron Cactus, a restaurant of Cynthia's choice, a truly vibrant place with great food and pristine service. Then we found the place to purchase tickets for the San Antonio Famous River Walk Boat Ride tomorrow evening which promises 100,000 lights.
Cynthia who is tall, athletic, energetic and outgoing is a speed walker and my feet are not in-tune with the speed of her walk. Noticing that she is perpetually waiting for me as I navigate the countless stairs and uneven cobblestone at a glacial pace. Seasons change and sometimes surgeries do not improve birth defects in one's feet as I so hoped. Unfortunately, the 2013 feet surgeries of 2013 left my feet more crippled than before...it is like having a heel and a big toe that function without any feeling or function in the remaining toes. After reviewing new x-rays, it was a surprise to me when the new Podiatrist said 10 years later, in 2023 that the tendons and ligaments between my feet and toes had been severed during the 2013 surgeries, and my feet simply would not be able to run, hop, skip, jump, hike, pedal a bike, climb up or down a slant...the singular hope was walking on flat surfaces with custom-made orthotics in athletic shoes. This information explained the previous decade of tripping, falling and struggling with stairs. With custom made orthotics and 5 physical therapy visits I learned to walk differently, which I am still practicing. This unexpected change went into my God-box knowing HE will take care of it in HIs time. I have two God-boxes: One overflowing with answered prayers, signs, wonders, blessings, and miracles. One with prayers awaiting HIS timing, kindness, favor, light, love and hope. HE is the LORD!
The sun has set early as it does two weeks before winter solstice and we returned to the hotel as Cynthia does not prefer driving in the dark. This I easily understand. She invited me to share "Communion Wine" in her hotel room which I thought meant Communion and Prayer, she meant watch TV and drink Communion Wine as there were portions of "Yellowstone" TV series that she had yet to see. What is now G rated for all audiences was R rated in my childhood. It did not seem to me that "Yellowstone" genuinely depicted the language of those that built Texas a hundred years ago. A rare anomaly and unique relic describes me well. After a couple of hours, I asked again if The Alamo could be first on the itinerary for tomorrow as we had one day in San Antonio. Then I retired to my room to pray and to spend time with PAPA GOD as I do every day. Sleep did not come easy. The city is on edge. The night was filled with a cacophony of countless dogs and trains, the atmosphere frenetic at best.
December 9, 2024 ~ Monday ~ In the morning, Cynthia enjoyed the Best Western Breakfast bar and even though I am hoping to finish the Alamo assignment as soon as possible, she chose to go shopping at a Salvation Army Thrift Store where I found an adornment for the Prophetic Worship Hammer for the State of Texas. Then to Costco for a brief interlude and filling the vehicle with fuel. Next on her agenda was heading south to the city of Gruene, Texas, a place that she and her husband, Greg, visited some years before. And I am realizing more clearly these two days for her are paid-vacation from her place of employment and this is her Christmas vacation. Perspective is always insightful. Flexibility essential. The drive south is peaceful as is the city of Gruene, a quaint small Texas town built in 1850 about the time the wagon trains were rolling into Oregon, my home State. Gruene is a German-Texan town in Comal County. Noticing cotton fields on the drive south reminiscent of a Prayer Journey to Alabama in 2006. Oregon has many lovely things...cotton fields is not one of them. Gruene was once a significant cotton-producing community along the Guadalupe River, the town has now shifted its economy to one supported primarily by tourism. Cynthia did some Christmas shopping while I window shopped as cerulean-blue skies hovered over us and angels flitted here and there. We casually strolled through the town as Cynthia reminiscently spoke of her time here with her husband. Then we shared lunch at one of the local restaurants. Great food. Exceptional service. Kind people. The windows were open as it is a beautiful, sunny 83 degrees F. Truly Fabulous! We are the L.U.C.K.Y. Ones! (Living Under Christ's Kindness Yes).
We headed north to San Antonio in the late afternoon, and the possibility of the Alamo seems fleeting. After a brief stop at the hotel we headed towards the Alamo once again. There is still no parking lot, no street parking, and construction, it is about an hour at the most before sunset. Cynthia dropped me off and I crossed the street looking for signage for the Alamo which is apparently being redone during construction as it does not exist. Quickly I snapped a few photos with my iphone, and walked by a closed temporary tent booth with a small sign indicating all four possible tours for the Alamo are sold out. Then my phone rang, Cynthia is calling, four minutes have passed since she dropped me off. The time-stamp on the photos indicated exactly four minutes from first to last. I quickly poured out the Holy Anointing Oil hidden in my jacket pocket, picked up a penny (One Sent by the LORD) and hurried to the waiting vehicle. For one driving around the block in rush-hour traffic with honking horns the time passed seemed much longer than five minutes. However, this is common in humanity as we process time as either not enough or too much depending on our circumstances, perception, needs and hopes.
Cynthia drove around looking for a "free-parking lot" which the city of San Antonio does not provide and finally settled on the same parking lot as the previous evening close to the River Walk. The sun set as we arrived and 100,000 lights began twinkling, it is quite something. Once again I am navigating cobblestone and stairs never quickly enough. We dined at a restaurant where Cynthia had eaten during a previous journey to San Antonio with her parents. Then to the River Boat a lovely historical tour of San Antonio along the San Antonio River with portions of it man-made and remodeled to be flood proof. At the end of the tour we returned to the parked vehicle and then to the hotel. Cynthia invited me again to enjoy "Jesus Juice" Communion Wine and watch TV with her, which I could only manage for an hour or so. Returning to my room for prayer and time with PAPA GOD. He knows that I am grieved over the 5-minute visit to the Alamo, not what HE had planned. Not what I had hoped. I pray for mercy.
As only HE can provide, a week after arriving home, I attended a holiday gathering and saw a friend whom I have not seen in a few months. I mentioned the recent trip to San Antonio, she smiled as she is going to San Antonio after the first of the year. And yes, she will take Anointing Oil and pray over the Alamo. This is the kindness of YHVH!
December 10, 2024 ~ Tuesday ~ Departing San Antonio about 8:00 AM we headed north toward Abilene, stopping by Kerrville, Texas along the way. The Coming King Prayer Garden is perched on a hill just northeast of Kerrville. The first parking level held an office and gift store which were both closed along with smaller versions of the Majestic Coming King Sculpture. The second parking level held the Glorious Lion of Judah sculpture with scriptures. Remarkable. Sacred. Holy. Inspirational. Brilliant. Beautiful. Sculpture Sanctuary. The tangible holy presence of ELOHIM is in this place. The third level where the Empty Cross and other sculptures are located required walking up a slope which my feet cannot do. Perhaps in time they will add stairs. So I enjoyed the photos that Cynthia took. This is the second most memorable sacred gift of this Prayer Journey. Unexpected. Unprecedented. Marvelous. Magnificent.
After arriving back in Abilene, in the mid-afternoon Cynthia took me on a tour of her workplace, Funeral Directors Life in Abilene, then we met at her parents' home, Larry and Claudia Jameson for a pizza with friends, Dwight and Patty Williams. I enjoyed seeing them again. Dwight generously gave the Dyess Airforce Base Tour during my last visit to Abilene in 2022. Patty gave me three pounds of hand-picked, hand-shelled Texas pecans in pure Texas style...an amazing gift. They are the kindest people.
December 11, 2024 ~ Wednesday ~ Departure from Abilene Airport Flight AA3547 at 6:36 AM was successful as Cynthia dropped me off an hour earlier. Noticing that I departed on the 7th before sunrise, arriving after sunset. Today, also departing before sunrise, hopefully arriving at my final destination before sunset. Arriving at DFW at 7:35 AM with an hour to make the connecting flight departing at 8:35 AM meant walking briskly through DFW, riding the rails, and navigating 174 gates to depart AA1421. Successful. A miracle. Sitting next to the original Chatty-Cathy who talked non-stop the entire flight to anyone willing to listen, even when the person to the right of her was sleeping, she kept talking. Gratefully arriving in PHX also known as the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport at 10:33 AM then delayed on the tarmac for twenty plus minutes due to gates being blocked....meant speed walking (which my feet do not do) to make the RDM connection at 11:04 AM...I was the last one on the flight. After the pilot instructed the flight attendants to prepare for take-off and they were buckled in, cabin lights dimmed, then a young mother with child went into the restroom to change a diaper, emerging 10 minutes later, which delayed take-off to the great frustration of the flight attendants and passengers. Flight connections are about timing. Arriving in RMD at 12:53 PM, waiting 20 minutes for my luggage which the flight attendant checked in PHX even though it was not necessary and I requested otherwise. Grateful for safe arrival, trekked to the vehicle in long-term parking, and drove into Bend to pick up the mail and arrived home before sunset. A gift. After unpacking, answering the mail and emails, I took a much needed 12-hour nap as the last five nights held truly little sleep. The kindness of YHVH.
As always giving thanks for the faithful H.G.R.M. Intercessors prayers and divine protection from ABBA ADONAI! As with any ministry outreach I always pray for YHVH's multiplied blessings on those giving their time and resources to make it possible. The day after I flew home Cynthia received a bonus and pay raise at her place of employment. This is the kindness of YHVH!
For the Glory of YESHUA!

“When Moses saw it, he was astonished at the sight; and as he approached to look more closely, the voice of the Lord came: ‘I AM THE GOD OF YOUR FATHERS, THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND ISAAC, AND JACOB.’ Moses shook with fear and did not dare to look closely. “But the LORD said to him, ‘REMOVE YOUR SANDALS FROM YOUR FEET, FOR THE PLACE ON WHICH YOU ARE STANDING IS HOLY GROUND.' " ~ Acts 7:21-33, NASB
