PRAYER JOURNEY TO MOROCCO
By Amanda Spunda ~ November 23, 2007
It was about a year and a half ago that the Lord spoke to me about Morocco. There are many Moroccans living in Holland so I knew a little bit about them. I have never been to Morocco before though.
The original inhabitants are Berbers, also called Imazighen which means “free men”. Many were Christians until they were conquered by Arab armies spreading Islam in the 7th century. The Berbers then converted to Islam. Today, Morocco is a melting pot of Berbers and Arabs, although many Berbers retain their languages, culture and separate identity.
The Lord prepared me for Morocco many years before, although I did not realize it until His call for me to go and visit the country. Back in 1987, our neighbors across the street were Moroccans. They were Muslims. A family with four children, age of 8, 6, 2 and a baby. The three eldest children played almost daily with our 2 years old son. Our second son came 5 years later. All these years, the three Moroccan children played at our house and garden. This went on until their teenage years. Sometimes it was as we had five instead of two children.
In 2001, I was invited to a Moroccan wedding. The bride was a Moroccan colleague at that time. I had the honor and privilege to make her wedding bouquet. It was a traditional Moroccan wedding so the fact that I, a Christian, made her bouquet was quite unusual.
So when the Lord told me to go “as a bride” to Morocco, the wedding of 2001 came to my mind. Sing a song of salvation and healing, let it flow through the waters. Dance a bridal dance, go as a bride…said the Lord.
In 2000, I was in Israël for a prayer journey. Together with my husband and sister in law I traveled throughout the country and visited Sinai desert in Egypt as well. We went up halfway the Moses mountain, it was an awesome experience. Back in Jerusalem, I received a vision during prayer. I saw many big jars filled with oil. The last one in the row was a jar for the Muslims. God prepared His anointment for the Muslim. I could not imagine that 7 years later the Lord send me to Morocco to release His anointment by a prophetic act. The vision would be fulfilled.
God only told me to go to Morocco, He did not mention where in Morocco. Which city I had to go to…. At first I thought maybe one of the four imperial cities, Fès, Mèknes, Rabat or Marrakech. Because that was my idea of typical Morocco. But the Lord remained silent. For a long time I did not know which city I had to go to. I had to be patience.
In the meantime, I continued my research on Morocco, also the part of Muslims who convert to Christianity. Living in Morocco, their lives are in danger. But more and more Muslims all over the world have experiences, in dreams or visions, where they meet Jesus personally. The Holy Spirit is doing a mighty work among them. These kind of reports come in from all over the world.
While studying about different aspects of Morocco in general, I was drawn to the city of Agadir. I started to read about Agadir. The more I read, the more I was convinced that Agadir was the city I had to visit. The Holy Spirit confirmed me.
In 1960 Agadir was hit by a devastating earthquake. The city was almost completely destroyed. The final death toll was 12000. The earthquake was the worst to ever hit Morocco. Today Agadir, rebuild a mile south of the earthquake epicentre, is a modern city and seaside resort. The word Agadir means in Berber language “fortified granary” a community barn where all members of a village used to store grains. So there are agadir’s spread all over Morocco. Spiritually this is significant and prophetic. Grains remind me of harvest; natural ánd spiritual. A grain warehouse is called “silo”. The bible teaches us that in the old days, Silo was a place of worship. Silo also refers to the Messias.
It was about two weeks before my departure to Morocco, when the Lord used my husband to complete the assignment of the oil jar (vision of 7 years ago). My husband said to me that he heard something interesting about Argane oil (we both never heard of it before). This oil comes from the nuts of the Argane tree. This tree is unknown to many people, since it grows only in the South Western part of Morocco, which includes Agadir and the area around it. Argane oil is also called “Gold of Morocco”. For centuries, Berber women of this region have produced argane oil which was used for their consumption and traditional medicine. It is also used for cosmetic purposes. Because of these God given insights, it became clear to me why the Lord appointed Agadir. I was amazed; how prophetic, spiritual and symbolical. God then revealed to me what I had to do concerning the vision of the oil jar. I had to pour three kinds of oils in a jar: olive oil, Argane oil and His kinsman Redeemer Holy Anointing oil.
An olive tree stands for Israël, the Jews, descendants of Isaac. Jeremiah 11:16 The Lord called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit….
Argane oil (Gold of Morocco) stands for Morocco (an Islamic nation) and for all the descendants of Ismaël . His Kinsman Redeemer Holy Anointing oil, which was send by Jennifer together with the Moroccan Glory Ring, stands for the prophetic proclamation of it (see website for more details). The first two oils mixed, represent unity between the sons and daughters of Isaac and Ismaël. A prophetic covenant, only possible by the hand of the Redeemer called Yeshua.
I received the Morocco Glory Ring on Monday 8th of July 2007. Jennifer mentioned three things on the cassette which is related to the keywords God gave me in the beginning. The first one was “water spring” (Jennifer saw lots of water, while making the Glory Ring). Well, as I arrived in Agadir, it rained; a strong and heavy rainfall. Just a week before it was sunny with temperatures of 30 degrees Celsius. I was told that the people started to dance as the rain fell, a day before my arrival. After a period of drought, the rain was more than welcome.
The second word was “forbidden gates”. The name of the Glory Ring is His Open Gates ofForgiven love. So, the Lord will reverse it. The third keyword was “hand of Fatima” which is an Islamic symbol for protection, used as amulets, or other kind of jewelry. Jennifer mentioned about our names, engraved in the palm of God’s hand. Only He can protect us from evil.
I departed from Amsterdam at Friday 11-23-07. This time I travelled alone. After three and a half hours, the plane approached Agadir airport. Flying over Agadir, I was able to hear and to see in the spirit how angels sang a bridal song while playing the tambourine.
It was a joyful sound……
Later in my hotel room as I prayed, I saw in the spirit realm that torches with holy fire were placed in my room, spreading God’s light. And a cloud of the Lord filled my room. He was with me…..I was in His presence. I thanked for His mercy and grace.
During my short stay, I was not able to meet Muslims who became Christians.
In the spirit however, I sensed them. I felt the connection and the unity. The Lord spreads His mighty wings over them. Spiritually they are like a pounding vain, vivid and alive. But I also sensed tension and fear.
The next morning I sounded the sjofar for the first time in Morocco at 8.25 a.m. Afterwards, as I took a walk outside, I saw a double rainbow in the sky!! Glory to God, what a beautiful sign of heaven! A sign of hope….I stood in awe looking at the rainbow, while capturing the beauty with my camera.
Prayer journeys are about spiritual warfare, sometimes very difficult and tough. But a prayer journey is also about victory, peace and joy and to be carried by the Lord.
Travelling alone can be extra hard, having not the prayer support of a team. During these travels I am always concentrated and focussed on the Holy Spirit. I fully depend on Him. One of the directions of the Holy Spirit was to bring the Glory Ring to the beach to release His glory over land ánd sea. There was warfare before I could take the Glory Ring for a prayer walk on the beach. The first time I went to the beach, I got distracted constantly. Finally I went back to my hotel room, in desperation turning to God for help. And He answered, by giving me strength and courage. About an hour later I went again to the beach and this time I was able to do God’s will.
Back home, the Lord wanted me to write His name in the sand. Which I did…..It felt as if invisible chains were broken as I wrote “YESHUA” in the sand. I added “ISA”, the name Muslims use when they speak about Jesus. That moment, while writing Yeshua’s name, I immediately sensed a release of spiritual freedom and liberty. In spirit realm there was a breakthrough.
Christian visitors are strictly forbidden to evangelise in any way or form, in Morocco as in most Islamic nations. Caught by the police, one may end up in prison or worse. But there I was, in total freedom, writing “Yeshua” and “Isa” on a Moroccan beach, blessing every one passing by, just by doing this act.
Policemen on guard on the beach somehow did not notice me, thank God.
Then I took the Glory Ring out my bag. It sparkled in the Moroccan sun. The wind was strong and it was a delight to watch the colourful ribbons and scarves swirl and taken by the wind. Sweet, holy scent of the Lord will travel across the nation and sea; my spirit rejoiced…..
During my stay, I met three Dutch tourists. I truly believe that this was arranged by the Lord, because He knew I was not to keen of travelling alone. Arriving in Morocco, I quickly experienced that a foreign woman alone, was an easy “target” for young Moroccan men.
The Dutch tourists and I rented a taxi, driver included. The next day we drove southwards, to explore that part of Morocco. The day before, I already bought Argane oil, olive oil and a jar. I planned to fulfil the assignment of the oils on the daytrip ahead of me. I believed I was walking according God’s timing, there was peace in my heart. Driving down south, I enjoyed the scenery. For the first time I felt like a tourist besides being a messenger and servant of the Lord. During the day, we stopped several times at interesting and beautiful places and the company of the Dutch was enjoyable. On our way back, we visited the Souss Massa National Park, probably the most important bird watching site in Morocco. As we approached the area, there was a stirring in my spirit. This must be the place and the moment for the oils….
Somewhere in between I already mentioned about the purpose of my trip to Morocco (prayer journey) to my fellow passengers and that I was not just a tourist. God called me for a specific kind of ministry, I explained. Once out of the taxi we walked around enjoying the beautiful view. It was a quite and peaceful area. I found the right spot to pray and to fill the jar with the three oils. As I sounded the sjofar, a donkey nearby, belonging to one of the Berber boys waiting for tourists to offer a ride on their animals, brayed. It sounded as an answer to the sjofar. Jesus rode on a donkey entering Jerusalem for the first time as a King. “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord” the crowds shouted. When Jesus rode on a donkey, it symbolizes that He came on a mission of peace. A humble King bringing a message of peace. A donkey is an animal often use to ridicule and mock others, yet Jesus chose to ride on it. Also, it was a donkey that carried Mary and Jesus into Bethlehem just before He was born. My message was a message of peace too, peace and unity. After intense prayer for unity, forgiveness and restoration between the sons and daughters of Isaac and Ismaël, I broke the jar by smashing it against a rock. This was a part of the prophetic act symbolizing the powerful outpouring of Gods anointing. I watched the oil flow, a great blessing to the Moroccan soil. In my heart I celebrated the fulfilment of the vision I received 7 years ago in Jerusalem. Gods ways are amazing.
Because I only had three days to spend in Morocco, timing was very important. I did not want to miss out God’s directions. There was still the “bride” part to fulfil…… Of course I thought and prayed about it before I left Holland. I would be ministering to Morocco, so I was inspired by the Holy Spirit to move into the Moroccan culture. Henna is a plant that is used in Morocco as well in many other countries/cultures to dye/draw patterns in the skin, mostly on hands or feet. Henna adornment on a woman’s hands or feet at her wedding day is quite common in Morocco.
Returning from the daytrip, I immediately made an appointment at the beauty salon of the hotel. I asked for a traditional bridal Berber pattern to be hennaed on my hand. Afterwards, in my prayer time being in the presence of God, I represented Morocco; humbling herself for the Lord God and offering herself to Her Maker and Husband.
The next day, I made another tour. This time arranged by a local travel agency. Again I was in the company of three tourists. A German woman and an elder couple from Belgian. How remarkable was the guidance of the Lord. The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany are geographical “neighbors”. A couple of months ago I prayed with André and Sylvia Bakker (Prophetic Network Netherlands) and a couple (Christian wedding pastors) at an unique geographical point in the south of Holland, called the Three-Country-Point. This is where the three countries, The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany come together at the highest point in the Netherlands.
That morning we were picked up at our hotel. I had my sjofar with me and I wondered how it would be to sound it. All kinds of thoughts went through my mind.
In obedience to the Lord, I had to sound the sjofar in the desert. That is why I booked the tour because the desert, called Little Sahara, was on the program....but I was not too sure of the peoples reaction. Can I blow the horn, is it not forbidden also? I honestly did not know.
After visiting interesting places and having several stops, we finally arrived around lunchtime at the sand dunes. There were other tourists as well and a couple of Berber men trying to earn some money. I separated myself from the group tourists and walked up the dunes. In faith I then blew the sjofar a few times. I noticed that a Berber followed me and tried to draw my intention. I slightly expected him to forbid me to sound the sjofar, but instead he encouraged me to continue! I was surprised and also relieved. Then he asked me if he can blow too! So I gave him the sjofar and he tried it. Well, to produce a sound of a sjofar requires a certain technique. I could not sound the sjofar either, but a few weeks before I travelled to Morocco I asked the Lord to teach me, since I received His direction to blow the sjofar. And He answered my prayer right away; after prayer I suddenly could sound the horn! The Berber enthusiastically blew a few times, but…..no sound. But that didn’t matter to me, the fact that a Muslim took a sjofar, which is a typical Jewish instrument, and (tried to) sound it, was a spiritual and prophetic picture of unity between the “Isaac’s” and “Ismaël’s”. That was a precious moment of brotherhood without cultural borders or differences. A Christian and a Muslim sharing a sjofar…..isn’t that a great testimony?!
Lunch that day was an unexpected treat! We dined at a restaurant with royal ambiance: an unbelievable beautiful crystal chandelier, couches in royal blue, rich ornaments everywhere, coloured glass mosaic ceiling…. for a moment I felled an oriental princess. We are sons and daughters of the most high King, therefore princes and princesses; cannot imagine how will it be in heaven……when this earthly royalty was already so breathtaking beautiful!
One more assignment to do…..which was building an “altar” for the Lord. We visited souss Massa National Park too that day. I was there with the Dutch tourists the day before. Apparently my task in that area was not finished. I found a spot to pray and to dedicate it to the Lord. A big piece of rock I anointed with His Kinsman Redeemer Holy Anointing oil. May God’s spirit and His anointment rest upon this place and this country. May His blood cleanse, cover and forgive. May His holy breath breathe upon this nation…..
This was one my toughest trip spiritual, but both interesting and impressive as well. A brief introduction to an Islamic nation, but emotional deep enough to touch my heart. God’s protection, guidance, grace and provision made this trip possible. I thank Him beyond words……
Psalm 86: 8-10, "AMONG THE GODS THERE IS NONE LIKE UNTO THEE, O LORD; NEITHER ARE THERE ANY WORKS LIKE UNTO THY WORKS. ALL NATIONS WHOM THOU HAST MADE SHALL COME AND WORSHIP BEFORE THEE, O LORD; AND SHALL GLORIFY THY NAME. FOR THOU ART GREAT AND DOEST WONDROUS THINGS; THOU ART GOD ALONE."
